SD Cards - Will they work in my digital Device?
The best piece of advice we can offer anyone considering an SD card purchase is to read your product manual!
Some of the most common reasons for issues with SD cards are as follows:
- Speed incompatibility: Many devices will not support speeds as high as 150x.
- Size: Even some late model 5+ megapixel cameras support only 512Mb. Always check your user manual before ordering.
SD vs. SDHC: The new SDHC card standard has confused many consumers as the SDHC card looks the same as a standard SD card. However, only the latest cameras, PDA's etc support this standard. If you have an older camera it will not work with SDHC cards.
- SD Card formats: There are 4 different formats used for SD digital cards. FAT, FAT 12, FAT 16 & FAT 32. Often cards need to be reformatted in order to work in different devices. This is best done through your device, however, if you encounter problems you can also format SD cards through MS Windows, Linux or Apple OS.
